They showed up with tools. The garden has not been the same since.

Grub, Nip and Scuttle arrived as a crew and have been working together ever since. Grub leans into his shovel with the ease of someone who has been at it all morning and has no intention of stopping. Nip stands slightly apart, bucket in hand, chrome eyes fixed forward with the focus of someone who knows exactly where they are going and has already been there twice today. Scuttle pushes his wheelbarrow with the unhurried confidence of a figure who decided this was the most efficient way to move things around a garden and is not interested in other opinions.

Together they cover a border edge, anchor a path, or take over a corner of the patio in a way that individually they simply cannot. Spread them out and each one holds his own spot. Arrange them together and the garden suddenly has a narrative running through it.

Up close the craftsmanship is where the piece earns its keep. Each ant is hand-worked iron with a distressed amber and black fired finish, chrome bubble eyes, scroll wire antennae and red accent legs that give all three a stride rather than a stance. The shovel, bucket and wheelbarrow are galvanised metal. The wheelbarrow has a working wheel. The bucket and barrow are both sized to hold a small succulent or trailing plant if you want the set to root itself properly into the garden.

At thirteen inches tall each figure has genuine presence without overwhelming the planting around it. Semi-manual production means no two pieces are entirely identical in finish — the distressed amber varies slightly across each body, which is exactly what hand-worked iron should do.

What to know before you order Each ant stands 13 inches tall and measures 6.3 inches wide and 4.9 inches deep. All three are constructed from hand-worked iron with a distressed amber and black fired finish, chrome bubble eyes, scroll wire antennae and red accent legs. The bucket and wheelbarrow are galvanised metal and functional as small planters. Semi-manual production means each piece carries slight individual variation in the finish. Weather-resistant and built for outdoor use year-round. Each ant is available individually or as a set of three. They arrive ready to place. No assembly required.

Key features Hand-worked iron construction with distressed amber and black fired finish, individually varied across each piece Each figure stands 13 inches tall with chrome bubble eyes, scroll wire antennae and red accent legs Grub carries a galvanised shovel, Nip a galvanised bucket planter, Scuttle a working-wheel galvanised wheelbarrow planter Bucket and wheelbarrow functional as small planters for succulents, moss or trailing plants Semi-manual production means no two pieces are entirely identical in finish Weather-resistant iron built for outdoor life year-round Available individually or as a complete set of three

Why people keep coming back to this one The material is what separates this from most garden ornaments at this price. Hand-worked iron with a fired distressed finish reads as craft rather than manufacture, and it holds up outdoors in a way that resin cannot replicate. As a set the three create something a single piece never quite manages, a corner of the garden that looks genuinely inhabited. They also make one of the more considered gift sets for anyone with a garden they care about.

A small note on availability Grub, Nip and Scuttle are stocked in limited quantities and each piece varies slightly in finish. When the current run sells through, restocking takes time. If you are buying the full set, it is worth not splitting the order across two visits.

Caring for the crew Iron will develop a natural patina outdoors over time, which suits the distressed finish well. A wipe with a dry cloth is all they need. A light coat of clear outdoor metal sealant once a year will slow the weathering process if you prefer to keep the finish closer to how it arrived.

How they get to you Fulfilled through our specialist décor partners and packed with care. Each piece is individually checked before it leaves and arrives ready to find its place in your garden.
